Every Saturday morning around the world, Seventh-day Adventists gather together in community to worship Jesus through music, prayer and Bible teachings.
The day starts with Sabbath School, usually at 9:30am. For children, there are songs, stories, crafts and fun activities. For the adults there are smaller groups where the Bible is read and discussed in a less formal setting than a typical church service. Here audience participation is welcomed. You can ask questions and learn more.
The church’s main worship program usually runs from 11am to noon. Singing, prayer and a sermon are almost guaranteed but depending on the week, you might be treated to special music, drama, a children’s story or other creative expression.
Church really is for everyone and we’d love you to join us!
Worship Style
After Sabbath school we meet for the main worship service to celebrate the Biblical weekly Sabbath. This is a memorial of Creation* and a time to remember how God has saved us through Jesus Christ**. While many of our other meetings are more informal and interactive, the main worship service is a little more solemn, allowing for reflection and contemplation.
We generally sing a few hymns or simple songs together throughout the service, someone will say a prayer on behalf of all of us, we take turns sharing some of the blessings experienced during the week or briefly share where special prayer is needed for someone. Often we have a children’s story or someone sharing a musical item or spiritual song with the church. We then listen to a message (‘sermon’) prepared earlier by either a Pastor or one of us that covers a Bible topic. The service usually goes for about an hour.
We encourage families to sit together for this time. Sometimes it can be difficult for young children to sit still for a whole hour. Activity packs are available to borrow, to assist with keeping the younger ones happy. It can be helpful to bring along some of your child’s favourite colouring-in pages, puzzles, soft toys and other quiet activities to help them settle. It is quite normal for children who are not used to sitting in church to take some time to get used to it – please do not let this stop you from coming. If you would like a hand with your children during the service, just ask one of our greeters. If you need to nurse your young one, there is a side room adjacent to the main worship room.
*If you are unsure about the idea that God created the Earth as described in the Bible, we have great study resources to explore whether Evolution or a six-day Biblical Creation holds up to scientific scrutiny – you may be very surprised by the answer!
** If you don’t really know about Jesus Christ or how He’s relevant to your life, we are happy to study the Bible and history with you to find out. We encourage open, honest questions and conversation. We may not have all the answers ready, but we will do our best to find out.
FAQ
When are worship services held?
Every Sabbath (Saturday) morning and at other times through the week, both at the church building and elsewhere.
Do I need a Bible?
No. You don’t have to bring anything—just yourself. If you would like a Bible, you can borrow one when you get here. You can also download a free Bible app to your smartphone.
Should I go if I don’t know anyone?
Our church is a place where all people are welcome, whether you’re younger or older, a lifelong Christian or a spiritual seeker. We would love to meet you! If you feel nervous, bring a friend or just send us a message.
Will I be asked to give money?
Every week we give our regular attenders the opportunity to support a variety of causes. It’s not required or expected that you give a donation, especially if you’re visiting us for the first time.
Will I be asked to speak publicly or pray?
If you participate in a small group Bible study, you’ll probably be asked to introduce yourself and to offer an opinion on what’s being discussed. But it’s not typical for a first-time guest to be singled out in the main worship service. Prayer is an important part of worship, and you are welcome to join in, but no one will ever force you to pray.
Who do I speak to if I have any questions?
Ask if you can speak to one of the leadership team—the pastor or one of the elders. Or just start with someone who looks friendly!
